Inventors and their inventions

Unit 1
In this unit we’re going to learn about some inventors and their inventions.
At the end, you will be able to talk about talk about inventors and their inventions.
Some inventions:
Johanes Gutenberg invented the printing press in Germany in 1440.
Alexander Fleming discovered the penicillin in his laboratory in London-England.
Zuckerberg  created   Facebook to help people communicate. 


Practice this conversation:

A: Do you remember the last English class?
B: Oh, yes! I do. It was about inventors and inventions.
A: Do you remember any inventor?
B: Of course. Johanes Gutenberg.
A: Who was he?
B: He invented the printing press.
A: Oh, yeah! I just remembered it! ... And when did he make his invention?
B: In 1440
A: I see. You remember every thing the teacher told us.
B: Almost. What about you? Do you remember where Johanes Gutenberg discovered the printing press?
A: I'm not sure. But I think it was in Germany.
B: You're right.  Now let's try with another inventor....

MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

Read the text and answer the questions.



My name is Joselyn. Today is my first day at school. I’m a new student. My father drives me to school in the car.

I have a blue schoolbag. There are some books, three pens, a ruler, some crayons, a dictionary, a pencil and an eraser in my schoolbag. My lunch box is yellow. I have an apple and a banana in my lunch box. I like fruit a lot.

My classroom is number seven. It is big and has a white board. The teacher has a desk and a chair. I have also a chair and a table. My teacher is very patient. She tells me to sit next to a boy. His name is Javier. There are nearly forty students in my class.

Today we color pictures and sing songs. We also read a short reading together. The school has a big playground in the center of the building. There are a lot of classrooms around. I play basketball with all the girls and boys in the break. I like my new school.

It’s 6:15. It’s time to go home. When I get home I have dinner. Then I do my homework. Later I watch my favorite program on TV. Finally, I go to bed.
