HELEN MURRAY

Helen Murray was born on February 20, 1923. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of James S. Murray, a coal company salesman. She received a B.A. degree in chemistry from The College of Wooster. After graduating from Wooster, Helen immediately began working as a quality control chemist for Miles Laboratories. Helen married Alfred Free in 1947 and had six children. Helen discovered the glucose test in 1956. Her invention helped people with diabetes to control their health in a better way. She retired in 1982, but continues to work as a consultant for Bayer Company. After her retirement, she became an active promoter of science education. Helen Free received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation from President Obama in 2009.

GEORGE EASTMAN


George Eastman was born on July 12, 1854, in Waterville, New York. George dropped out of high school at age 14. He began as a messenger and office boy for insurance companies and studied accounting at home to qualify for a higher salary. In 1880, he opened the Eastman Film Company. George Eastman invented the Kodak camera, helping make photography accessible to the public. His company remains one of the largest in the industry. Later he offered the first Brownie camera, which was intended for children. By 1927, Eastman Kodak was the largest U.S. Company in the industry. George Eastman believed products should have their own identity. The company slogan was "You press the button, we do the rest". George died in 1932.

ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL
 

Alexander old, he invented a machine that could clean wheat. Graham studied anatomy and Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 3, 1847. When he was only eleven years physiology at the University of London. In 1872, Alexander founded a school for the deaf which soon became part of Boston University. After receiving a patent on March 7, 1876, for transmitting sound along a single wire, he successfully transmitted human speech on March 10th. Alexander’s telephone patent was one of the most valuable patents ever issued. In 1898, Alexander Graham Bell and his son-in law took over the National Geographic Society and built into one of the most recognized magazines in the world. Alexander Graham Bell died in August 2, 1922.

Tim Berners Lee was born on 8th June 1955 in London, England. He went to Queen’s College, Oxford University, where he received a first class degree in physics.
After graduation, he gained employment for a printing firm in Plessey Poole. The internet until 1960 was considered as a way to transfer information between different computers. In 1990, he produced the first version of the World Wide Web, the first web browser and the first web server. It was put online in 1991.
Essentially the contribution of the World Wide Web, was to make it easy for people to use web pages for communicating anywhere on the internet.
